Alumni Host Cookout and Conduct New Candidate Induction Ceremony

On August 16th, several Beta Zeta alumni along with our faculty advisor maned the grill and cooked burgers and hotdogs for a "Welcome Back" cookout at our chapter house. Andy Robison (faculty advisor) and Jeff Hollings (BZ 1178) did the grilling. Several other alumni also attended including Aaron Hohenbrink (BZ 1636), Drew Adam (BZ 1833), Al Wurster (BZ 1334), and Carson Shadowen (BZ 1762). This was the Friday before classes started and the first semester the colony members are living back in the chapter house. Not all of the 28 brothers living in the house this fall were back to campus yet. Al Wurster furnished the drone for the picture of (most of) us on the back deck. Also pictured is the entrance to the house with our Welcome Back banner. Thanks to Pat Hatfield (BZ 1231, President of the Housing Corp) and his team, the house is looking pretty good despite being 28 years old and never having had a significant renovation. This summer, the common areas were repainted and spruced up, a fire pit was added outside and some plumbing repairs were completed to prepare for Beta Zetas moving back in.

On September 13, a new candidate induction ceremony (the formal ceremony to begin what we used to call pledge ship) was conducted by alumni. Once we get our charter back and become an official Sigma Nu chapter agin, this ceremony will be conducted by collegiate brothers. However for now, alumni must conduct the ceremony. Al Wurster, Jeff Hollings, Jay Maddox (BZ 1065) and Adam Girtz (Sigma Nu National consultant) conducted the ceremony. 17 new candidates were inducted, which brings the total colony membership up to 50 guys. Pictured are all of the colony members, new candidates and alumni who conducted the ceremony.
