Alumni Funded Scholarships Awarded to Beta Zetas

On April 14th, six scholarships totaling $2,700 were awarded to Beta Zeta collegiate members. Jeff Hollings (BZ 1178, Chairman of the Alumni Advisory Board and Chapter Advisor) and Pat Hatfield (BZ 1231, newly elected President of the Beta Zeta Housing Corporation) attended chapter and presented the checks. This is the second year in a row that scholarships have been awarded. Several generous alumni contributed to the special Beta Zeta scholarship fund, led by Chuck Ludwig, BZ 1066 who donated $5,000. In the future, we hope to raise more money to sustain and increase the size of the program.

To apply, Beta Zetas needed to have at least a 3.25 fall semester GPA. Note that Purdue is now on a 4.0 scale. Most recipients had over a 3.5 GPA in the fall semester. In addition to recognizing academic performance, character and leadership behaviors are considered in the selection process. Interviews were held to assess each applicant. Three members of the Alumni Advisory Board conducted interviews-Jay Gardner (BZ 1259), Jeff Ulrich (BZ 1719), and Jeff Hollings.

Brother Joe Warter '02 Learned Leadership and Teamwork with Sigma Nu

Joe Warter’s experience with Sigma Nu at Purdue started in 1997. Warter’s father, mother, and older brother had all participated in Greek like during their college careers, so it was only natural for Warter to pursue it when he arrived on the Purdue campus. Warter had some connections at Sigma Nu and it made it an easy place to start.

“It was almost like home,” Water recalls. “I knew a couple of guys there, and I quickly knew it was the right choice. I looked at only a couple other places.”

ANNUAL FUND UPDATE – HAVE YOU MADE YOUR 2019 GIFT?

Help Us Meet Our Goal This Year!

Our 2018-19 giving year, which began on September 1, 2018, is half over with $11,595 collected from 63 brothers. We want to thank those 63 brothers (you can find them under the Honor Roll tab on our website) who have already made a contribution to Sigma Nu-Purdue so far this giving year!

Our 2018-19 giving year goal is $20,000. Last year only 74 out of 1,674 alumni chose to make a voluntary gift. Since we have not met our goal — we still need your help. Who will be next to join our 2018-19 Honor Roll?
